1 Peter
From Commontary
The First Epistle of Peter
Themes:
Seek closeness to God (Godliness and Holiness) in the face of persecution or in the midst of suffering, pressing into God, and not being pushed away from God. Use suffering as a means to press into God and becoming like him, and not allowing it to have the opposite effect on them.
In the face of Neronian religious and social persecution, Peter writes to Gentiles who may be wavering in their faith, thinking it tempting to turn back to their old ways, and wants to challenge them to stand strong, and push into godliness as a means of rebutting the tempting ways of society, and thus laying down a deeper foundation that will prove strong in the midst of persecution.
