Set during the time of Judges (warlords) the book of Ruth was written sometime during or shortly after the life of David as seen by the genealogy at the book's end. (4:18-22)
Depending on the date of the exodus the story of this book took place between 1400 BC-1000 BC. By the genealogy given (Boaz, Obed, Jesse, David) one presumes that Ruth took place late during the time of the warlords.
